John Stuart Blackie, professor of Greek at Edinburgh, rendered the seven surviving plays as lyric drama, giving the choruses the swing of English song. The volume opens with an essay on the genius of Greek tragedy and a life of Aeschylus, then runs from Agamemnon and the rest of the Oresteia through Prometheus Bound to The Persians, with full notes on each play.
A Victorian translation that treats the choral odes as poetry first, a lively companion to more literal versions. Download the free EPUB.
