A gentleman from Limoges arrives in Paris to marry Julia, who loves Éraste, and the lovers set the Neapolitan adventurer Sbrigani and the scheming Nérine to drive him off. The bewildered visitor is handed over to doctors determined to cure him of madness, claimed by women posing as his abandoned wives and threatened with the law in one of Molière’s liveliest farces.
