Lady Mason’s young son Lucius owns Orley Farm under a codicil to his late father’s will, and his half-brother has never accepted it. When old documents come to light the case is reopened, drawing in lawyers, the gallant Sir Peregrine Orme, commercial travellers at a Leeds inn and several families’ worth of courtships.
Trollope thought this one of his best novels, a broad portrait of English law and society with a moral puzzle at its centre. Download the free EPUB.
