L. Taylor Hansen (Lucile Taylor Hansen) was an early contributor to Amazing Stories and one of the few women publishing science fiction in the late 1920s. The Undersea Tube (1929) imagines a transatlantic tunnel and the dangers — engineering, human, and perhaps supernatural — that threaten its construction. Hansen’s scientific grounding gives the story a credibility that many contemporaries lacked, and the adventure elements move briskly.
This free EPUB brings this historically interesting early science fiction story to any e-reader in a clean reformatted edition. As an example of women’s science fiction from the genre’s earliest commercial era, and as a technically engaged adventure in its own right, The Undersea Tube is a genuinely rare find in the public domain.
