The Price

Dead figures writhe and beckon in my dream;

Wild eyes look into mine;

While I, bewildered, watch the bloody stream

With misty eyes ashine.

It rends my heart, and I am nothing loath

To have the murder cease.

Horror it is and carnage, yet are both

Part of the price of peace.

Corpl. Comus, 2nd Bat., A.I.F.
