A French officer’s memoir of machine-gun service on the Western Front, introduced by Georges Clemenceau and Maurice Barrès. Lafond searches for his company, finds billets, reconnoitres in fog, fights his first engagement and digs through the night under star shells, recording the poilus’ courage with immediacy.
A vivid French voice from the trenches, published for American readers in 1918. Download the free EPUB.
