Aurora Mardiganian was a girl in Chmshkatsag when the deportations of 1915 began. She tells of her family’s destruction, the long marches under the zaptiehs, slave markets and harems, and her escape, as written down in English by H. L. Gates. The book was published in 1918 and was soon made into a film in which she played herself.
