Drawing on Schoolcraft rather than Longfellow, Mary Catherine Judd collects legends told by and about Native American peoples, including tales of Menabozho and the story of Ampata at the Falls of Minnehaha, along with sketches of tribes, wampum, log forts of the Iroquois and Indian picture records. Illustrations are by the Ho-Chunk artist Angel De Cora.
