Pemberton, a poor young Oxford man, takes a post as tutor to Morgan Moreen, the sickly, brilliant son of a family of American adventurers drifting between Nice, Paris and Venice. The Moreens talk endlessly of feelings and never of wages, and as the money runs out, tutor and pupil form a bond deeper than either the parents or Pemberton expected.
One of James’s finest novellas, compact and quietly devastating. Download the free EPUB.
