In the rain-soaked north country, the Dixons wait for guests while floods threaten the road, and soon the neighbourhood is stirred by a rich, reclusive art collector and the agent who serves him. Lydia Penfold, a young painter, must choose between suitors while questions of inheritance and the collector’s conduct darken the story.
A late novel by one of the most widely read novelists of her generation, with a touch of mystery. Download the free EPUB.
