The Reverend Josiah Crawley, perpetual curate of Hogglestock, learned, proud and desperately poor, cannot explain how a cheque for twenty pounds came into his hands, and all Barsetshire takes sides. While Mrs. Proudie hounds him, his daughter Grace’s romance with Major Grantly troubles the archdeacon, and the old cast of the cathedral close, Allington and Framley gather for a last appearance.
Trollope thought it his best novel, and Crawley is among the great tormented figures of Victorian fiction. Download the free EPUB.
