Captain Algernon Ferrers, known to the Scarlet Lancers at Idleminster as Bootles, is a fine whist player and a confirmed bachelor until a foundling girl named Mignon enters his life. The regiment adopts her, the colonel feeds her nectarines, and her lisping speech charms every officer in the barracks while the mystery of her parentage waits.
The short sentimental novel that made Henrietta Stannard’s pen name famous, still tender and funny about soldiers and children. Download the free EPUB.
