Adam Livesey, a rugged, unhappy foundry hand, tells the visitor who comes after him that he is of no account and that his Sundays are his own affair. The story follows him, his wife and their family through a strike, hardship and the patient kindness of Mr. Drummond toward a man the world has dealt hard with.
