John Anderson, naturalist to both missions, describes the British expeditions led by Colonel Sladen in 1868 and Colonel Browne in 1875 that sought an overland trade route from Burma to western China. He follows the journey up the Irrawaddy to Bhamo, through the Kachin hills to Momien in Yunnan, with observations on peoples, Muslim communities, plants and animals along the way.
A detailed record of a little-known frontier, published after the second mission ended in tragedy. Download the free EPUB.
