Setting out from Flushing, Landor travelled by rail through Russia and then by horse and camel across Persia and Baluchistan to India, taking notes on towns, deserted cities, bazaars, roads and the rivalry of Russia and Britain for the region. Two Persian kittens bought in Kerman rode in a straw-lined box on his last camel and survived the whole way to London.
A vivid, opinionated record of Persia at the turn of the twentieth century, for readers of old overland travel. Download the free EPUB.
