After paddling a paper canoe from Quebec to the Gulf, Nathaniel Bishop set out again, this time alone in a Barnegat sneak-box, a small decked duck-hunting boat. He drifts from Pittsburgh down the Ohio and the Mississippi, past Blennerhassett’s Island and the plantation of Jefferson Davis below Vicksburg, then along the Gulf coast of Florida, meeting river people, hunters and lighthouse keepers.
A classic of American small-boat travel, full of the river life of the 1870s. Download the free EPUB.
