In 1905 a Chicago gynaecologist sailed via New Orleans and Port Limón to Colón for the Pan-American Medical Congress in Panama City. He describes the Panama Railway, the hotels, a bullfight and the work on the canal, with tongue in cheek throughout, beginning with a dedication mocking the Canal Commissioners.
