In carnival-time Marseille a young man known only as Monsieur George is drawn into a plot to smuggle arms by sea to the Carlist rebels in Spain. At its heart is Doña Rita, a peasant girl turned heiress and model whose beauty enchants everyone around her, and George’s love for her leads him into danger, jealousy and a duel.
