In a dream the narrator, a Mahatma, finds himself on the Great White Road that the dead travel, and meets the spirit of a hare. She tells him of her life in the fields, of the shooting, coursing and hunting she has endured, and of the men who pursued her, until the red-faced man who killed her arrives on the same road.
