On the edge of Aquilonian settlement, a young settler named Balthus falls in with Conan, now a scout for the garrison of Fort Tuscelan. The Picts across the Black River are massing under the shaman Zogar Sag, who commands the beasts of the forest, and the two men race through the woods to warn the outlying homesteads.
A frontier tale in barbarian dress, often ranked among the best Conan stories Howard wrote. Download the free EPUB.
