An Englishman in Japan writes of his young wife, Mousmé, as she leans over his shoulder in apricot silk and a magenta obi. His idyll is told in a diary of daily life, lantern-lit walks, Japanese customs and the small comedies and misunderstandings of a marriage across two cultures; it carries the romantic exoticism of its day.
A popular turn-of-the-century romance in the tradition of Loti’s Madame Chrysanthème. Download the free EPUB.
