A British Museum Assyriologist summarises what the cuneiform tablets reveal about Mesopotamian belief: the Babylonian story of creation, the principal gods from Anu and Ea to Merodach and Ishtar, the demons and the exorcisms and ceremonies used against them, and the open problems that the young study of Assyriology still faced in 1906.
