Bacon begins with the Spanish and French missions and their decline, then follows the planting of churches in Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas and Puritan New England, the Great Awakening, the Revolution, the organisation of the Catholic and other churches in the new republic, revivals, slavery’s division of the denominations, and the religious life of America near the end of the nineteenth century.
A broad, readable survey by a Congregational minister, still useful as an overview of American religious history. Download the free EPUB.
