First preached to his Kidderminster congregation and published in 1650, Baxter’s treatise describes the nature and excellencies of the rest prepared for God’s people, who will share it, the misery of losing it, and how a believer can discern a title to it. Later chapters urge a heavenly life on earth and the duty of drawing others toward it. Benjamin Fawcett’s abridgment keeps the work readable.
