Preaching at a visitation at Ipswich on Christ’s words to the Laodicean church, be zealous, the Puritan town preacher Samuel Ward diagnoses his age as lukewarm, like aged King David whom no clothes could warm. He defines true zeal, defends it against those who mock it or praise only the golden mean, and urges clergy and people to kindle it in themselves.
A vivid specimen of Jacobean Puritan preaching, rich in imagery and original spelling. Download the free EPUB.
