Virgil’s first book: ten short poems in which shepherds sing contests, mourn, court and lose their land. Meliboeus is driven from his fields while Tityrus rests under his beech tree; Corydon pines for Alexis; the Fourth Eclogue foretells the birth of a child who will bring back the golden age. The translation is in English blank verse.
