Lady Plus, a wealthy citizen’s widow, vows never to remarry, and her household of Puritan servants and suitors gives the tricksters of London their chance. The penniless scholar George Pyeboard, the highwayman Captain Idle and the swaggering Corporal Oath stage fake fortune-telling, sham resurrections and bailiff-dodging to win the widow and her daughters.
A lively Jacobean city comedy once printed as Shakespeare’s, now credited to Middleton. Download the free EPUB.
