The men of the Trenartha Tin Plate Works have been on strike all winter, and their families are going hungry. Old John Anthony, the company’s chairman, will not compromise with labour; David Roberts, the strikers’ leader, will not compromise with capital. As directors and union officials search for a settlement behind their backs, the cost of the deadlock falls on the women at home.
