A duke hires a conjurer to entertain his household: his romantic niece Patricia, who has met the stranger in the garden and half believes him a fairy, her hard-headed brother Morris, back from America, a doctor and a clergyman. When Morris sets out to expose the tricks, the drawing room becomes an argument about belief, scepticism and the supernatural.
Chesterton’s first play, staged in London in 1913, as witty and paradoxical as his Father Brown stories. Download the free EPUB.
