In an all-Black Florida town, Jim Weston, a Methodist, and Dave Carter, a Baptist, fall out over a turkey, and Jim knocks Dave down with a mule bone. The trial is held in the Baptist church, and the whole village, its gossips, children and preachers, takes sides in a battle of scripture, insult and folk wit.
Hurston’s own version of the comedy behind her disputed collaboration with Langston Hughes, Mule Bone, transcribed from her typescript. Download the free EPUB.
