John Gaunt has made his fortune by his own brains, and has everything except a true friend. When he finds one, the friendship and the vow of the title are tested, while the scheming Baron de Croiseuil and his paid creature Sherren plot against them in a story that moves between English drawing-rooms and the Congo.
A brisk melodrama of money, friendship and villainy in the Edwardian manner. Download the free EPUB.
