Sybylla Melvyn, clever, plain by her own account and rebellious by temperament, is stuck on a struggling dairy farm at Possum Gully, her family dragged down by drought and her father’s drinking. Sent to her grandmother’s comfortable station at Caddagat, she discovers music, books and the attentions of the wealthy squatter Harold Beecham, and has to decide what she wants from life.
Written while Franklin was still a teenager and introduced by Henry Lawson, it is one of the founding novels of Australian literature. Download the free EPUB.
