The Reverend C. A. Johns, author of Flowers of the Field, wrote this survey of the birds of Britain, here revised and annotated by J. A. Owen. Species are taken order by order, from the songbirds through owls, hawks, waders and gulls, each described in its habitat with notes on nesting, song and the observations of earlier naturalists.
A Victorian favourite of field naturalists, rich in anecdote as well as description. Download the free EPUB.
