Opening with a night walk through rural France where the locals took him for a loup-garou, Baring-Gould traces the werewolf from classical lycanthropy and the shape-shifters of the North through medieval belief and the trials of real accused men such as Jean Grenier. He devotes closing chapters to the crimes of Gilles de Rais and asks what natural causes lie behind the legend.
A strange, compelling read for lovers of folklore, criminal history and the macabre, from the author of Onward, Christian Soldiers. Download the free EPUB.
