The Glasgow folklorist W. A. Clouston introduces Saadi and his Gulistan, then wanders through Oriental wit and humour, the Persian tales of a parrot, rabbinical legends of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, an Arabian love tale and the apocryphal life of Aesop. Lighter papers on medieval clergy and the beards of our fathers round out the volume.
