Andrew Lang replies point by point to Max Müller’s Contributions to the Science of Mythology, defending the anthropological method that compares myths with the beliefs and customs of living peoples against Müller’s theory that myths grow from misunderstood language about the sun and sky. Totems, Mohawks, fire-walks and the evidence of missionaries all enter the argument.
