The Norse myths are retold here in plain, lively prose, from the meeting of mist and fire in the great gulf before creation to Odin’s search for wisdom, the magic mead, Sif’s golden hair and the forging of Thor’s hammer, the binding of the Fenris wolf, Iduna’s apples, the wooing of Gerd and Thor’s duel with the giant Hrungner.
