Zabelle Boyajian translated and decorated this anthology in 1916 as a memorial to an unhappy nation, with an introduction by Viscount Bryce. It gathers Armenian folk songs, love lyrics such as “Black Eyes” and “O Night, Be Long,” songs of exile, and the old legend of Vahagn, King of Armenia, alongside a survey of the country’s history and literature.
A rare English window onto Armenian poetry, assembled in the shadow of the genocide by a translator determined that it be remembered. Download the free EPUB.
