Hector Macintosh, a dreamy young Highlander of five-and-twenty, writes verse in the secrecy of his own room and shrinks from sharing it with anyone. When he marries Annie, a woman of quiet strength, his mother’s silent hostility comes between them, and the young couple must find their way through poverty, pride and the trials of a struggling writer’s life.
A short late novel by the Scottish author of Phantastes and The Princess and the Goblin, gentle and devout. Download the free EPUB.
