Before he met Sullivan, Gilbert wrote and illustrated comic ballads for Fun, and this second collection gathers more of them. Poll Pineapple tells her bumboat woman’s story, two ogres reform, Pasha Bailey Ben rules, Lieutenant-Colonel Flare and Lost Mr. Blake meet absurd fates, and one couple marries by electric telegraph.
Topsy-turvy verse that seeded H.M.S. Pinafore and the Savoy operas, a joy for Gilbert and Sullivan fans. Download the free EPUB.
