In the early 1870s a mixed party of Eastern sportsmen, a Tammany politician, a naturalist and assorted greenhorns rides out onto the Kansas plains to hunt buffalo and dig for fossils. Webb plays their mishaps for laughs while describing the herds, prairie towns, railroads and land prospects; his portrayal of the Plains peoples carries the hostile frontier prejudices of 1872.
A boisterous period piece of Western humour and promotion, valuable for its first-hand view of the vanishing buffalo country. Download the free EPUB.
