Two wives, Eulalia and Xantippe, compare their marriages. Xantippe complains of a drunken, idle husband; Eulalia answers that a patient, sensible wife can win over almost any man, and tells how. This is Erasmus’s colloquy in the English of 1557, with its original spelling and line breaks preserved.
A witty Renaissance dialogue on marriage and a fine sample of mid-Tudor prose, though its advice to wives is very much of its century. Download the free EPUB.
