Prompted by Wordsworth’s poem Peter Bell and a parody of it, Shelley sends a third Peter Bell through death, the Devil, a Hell very like London, sin, grace and damnation. The target is Wordsworth himself, the young radical turned conservative, whose genius Shelley still honours even as he mocks his dullness.
A lesser-known, very funny Shelley, for readers of the Romantics. Download the free EPUB.
