Written by a great-nephew of Jane Austen with his daughter, this book follows her brothers Francis and Charles from midshipmen to admirals: promotions and patrols, the sloop Peterel in the Mediterranean, the blockade of Boulogne and the hunt for the French fleet with Nelson. Their letters and logs are set beside Jane’s letters and the naval officers of her novels.
