Written in Peru in 1572 for King Philip II, this chronicle sets down the Inca origin myths, the first settlers of the valley of Cuzco, and the reigns of successive Incas from Manco Capac to the Spanish conquest, including Inca Yupanqui’s defence of Cuzco. Sir Clements Markham’s 1907 Hakluyt Society translation adds an introduction and notes, including the death of Tupac Amaru.
A key early source on Inca history, written to argue that the Incas were usurping tyrants, so read its verdicts with care. Download the free EPUB.
