Francis Younghusband, who led the British mission to Lhasa in 1904, traces British India’s attempts to reach Tibet from Warren Hastings onward: Bogle’s and Turner’s missions, Manning’s visit, the treaty with China, and fears of Russia. Most of the book is his own account of the march from Simla and the negotiations in Lhasa.
