A former White officer from the Ingush people of the Caucasus, Sozerko Malsagov was imprisoned in Tiflis and shipped to the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea, where an old monastery had become a prison camp. In May 1925 he and four companions escaped and reached Finland after thirty-six days. His book describes the guards, torture cells, forced labour and hostages held there.
One of the earliest eyewitness accounts of the Soviet camp system, decades before the Gulag became widely known. Download the free EPUB.
