Beginning with the social comedy of the first federal capital, Bowers paints full portraits of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson and then follows their struggle through the 1790s: the Treasury programme, the echoes of the French Revolution in American streets, the protests over Jay’s Treaty and the contest that carried Jefferson to power in 1800.
Published in 1925, it is an openly Jeffersonian account by a Democratic journalist who later served as an ambassador. Download the free EPUB.
