Born in Massachusetts in 1841, Murdock went to Humboldt Bay in California as a boy in 1855 and to San Francisco in 1864. He recalls the frontier settlement of the north coast, the young Bret Harte as he knew him, the city in the sixties and after, Emperor Norton on the streets, and his own years in business and public service.
A gentle, first-hand record of California’s early decades. Download the free EPUB.
