In 1621 Captain Ralph Percy, a Jamestown settler, throws dice for a decision and goes down to the river to take a wife from the shipload of maids sent out from England. The proud woman he marries is no tobacco bride but a ward of King James fleeing a hated courtier, Lord Carnal, and pirates, Spaniards and Powhatan’s warriors follow.
A colonial romance of adventure and loyalty that made Mary Johnston one of the most widely read novelists of 1900. Download the free EPUB.
